Prisioner to my muse

{June 5, 2009}   Melody’s Song update

Melody’s Song is my first YA novel. Actually, it is also my first full lenght and my first person pov (that means the story is written from Melody’s point of view: so I did this, not she did that)

I’m thrilled to announce the story is now completely finished and into edits with my Crit Partners! The planis to have it completely editted in time for the RWA (Romance Writers of America’s) National conference in DC in July. I have an appointment with an agent and an editor that I am hoping to dazzle with Mel’s story.

Soon I will be putting together a book trailer and a book blurb for all of you to read! So please check back soon 🙂

I love all animals. So when I came across this article on strange facts I thought it would be great to share. I know it’s not exactly writing related, but the more knowledge the better! So here goes:

Did you know?…The world’s smallest mammal is the bumblebee bat of Thailand, weighing less than a penny.

Did you know?…There are more than 50 different kinds of Kangaroos.

Did you know?…A chameleon’s tongue is twice the lenght of its body.

Did you know?…A bee must visit 4,000 flowers in order to make one tablespoon of honey.

Did you know?…A hedgehog’s heart beats an average of 300 times a minute.

Did you know?…In North America, a black cat crossing your path is throught to bring bad luck. In Great Britain, a black cat crossing your path is thought to bring good luck.

And my favorite:

Did you know?…The fingerprints of koala bears are virtually indistguishable from those of humans, so mush so that they could be confused at a crime scene. –> I think this is a cool fact, something I hope I might be able to use one day in a future story!

Check back soon for more ‘Did you know?’ posts.

I’m speechless. Someone forward this to me and believe me, I am not usually one to forward emails on, but this one got me big time. It’s about 7 minutes long and so worth taking a look. I don’t want to spoil the surprise but I have to! I am as guilty as the judges and the audience members. When this woman walked out on stage, I know I would have snickered at her…boy do I feel like a complete jacka$$.

I am inspired. Surprises are good, dreams came come true, and you should never stop putting yourself out there in fear of ridicule.

Lesson learned. I am a better person for spending 7 minutes and watching this clip.

{April 9, 2009}   Taking the plunge!

bannerforkendalHi! Wow, first post. Very exciting 🙂

I am new to the blogging world and also new to YA writing (see my ‘About Kendal’ page for more details). I plan to update this blog often with fun and revelant topics to YA authors and readers. I also write adult sweet stories and have a new story coming soon from Red Rose Publishng, so occasionally I’ll chat about some of my sweeter adult work too. I’ll be adding a bookshelf page and post about whatever I am currently reading. My first book topic will be about the extremely popular Twilight series and the hype in today’s media.

I hope you check in often to see what’s new and exciting. Please leave comments to any post, I’d love to hear from you!
